In the crowded subcompact SUV segment, there are plenty of great choices to choose from. However, the 2022 Ford EcoSport is not one of them. MotorTrend ranked the Ford small SUV dead last out of 20 different vehicles. Why is the 2022 Ford EcoSport last?

For MotorTrend, it tests hundreds of vehicles each year. Each is given an overall score out of a total of 10 points. Each model is judged on its ride, interior space, efficiency, technology, value and safety. For the subcompact SUV segment, these models have to have a bit of everything to make it to the top of the charts. MT doesn’t just hand out good grades.

However, the top-ranked model is the Subaru Crosstrek for 2022. With an overall rating of 9.2/10, there’s not much the publication doesn’t like. The two Kia models, the Soul and the Seltos, follow closely. The vehicle class includes many popular models like the Ford Bronco Sport, Honda HR-V, and Mazda CX-30. Whichever one you choose, it will have a better rating than the 2022 Ford EcoSport.

What’s so bad about the 2022 Ford EcoSport? First, MT gave it an overall rating of 6.3/10, well below most other models. The reviewer’s biggest gripes about this are its low value, low efficiency, and few safety features. Plus, vehicles with lots of standard safety features, great features for the price, and great fuel economy are much better choices.

MT says even in its Sport form; engine options are noisy and underpowered. With a starting price of $22,040 and an average of 23 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, the EcoSport looks competitive. However, the standard equipment is simply not up to par with other models. Regardless of the price competitiveness, the Ford EcoSport isn’t worth the price of admission.

The base model is a 2022 Ford EcoSport S. For such a low price; you’d expect a cheap, outdated, lacking interior inside the subcompact SUV. Well, you would be right. Unlike more impressive, top-tier models, the EcoSport doesn’t give owners enough bang for their buck. Unfortunately, at $22,040 you get what you pay for, which isn’t much.

Standard EcoSport S features include 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, power windows and locks, six-speaker audio system, two USB ports and Wi-Fi hotspot 4G LTE. The feature list expands considerably by choosing the next trim level, but it also jumps almost $6,000. While the equipment is upgraded, it doesn’t fix the four-star safety rating or the 123-hp 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo engine. As a result, he earned his place in last place.

For example, 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, automatic climate control, height-adjustable driver’s seat, 60/40 split-folding rear seat, 6.5-inch touchscreen, USB port, system quad-speaker audio and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Plus, the build quality is excellent, with plenty of soft-touch surfaces, which makes it more expensive. Plus, it’s got an overall five-star safety rating from NHTSA, which is spot on.

Avoid the last place Ford EcoSport 2022

If you’re interested in a new subcompact SUV, it’s best to avoid buying the 2022 Ford EcoSport. Overall, the Ford model doesn’t offer much in terms of value. Although the cost is not high, it still seems too high for the amount of equipment and the quality of the vehicle. Moreover, it is not as secure as other models and seems outdated. Since the best subcompact SUVs, like the Subaru Crosstrek, are just as affordable, the choice is obvious.
