Place chart

The only remaining place in Wales that still has a Covid infection rate above 1,000

There are seven regions in Wales with Covid infection rates of over 600 cases per 100,000 people.

This data was first released on Friday, February 18. They provide the figures for areas with an average population of 7,000, called medium super exit areas (MSOA). In practice this means that there are statistics for areas like Canton in Cardiff, Morriston in Swansea and Porth in Rhondda.

It is important to keep in mind that this data is very volatile because it covers smaller areas. When an area has a very small population, even one positive case can dramatically increase the number of cases per 100,000, so you need to be careful about drawing too many conclusions directly from the information.

The three areas with the highest infection rates in each local authority

This is based on weekly infection rates for the previous seven days per 100,000 people. Data is based on the seven-day moving average between February 7 and February 13.
