Spider-Man Dunks on Superman with a New Comic-Con Hall of Fame Spot

Marvel’s Spider-Man is about to be inducted into the Comic-Con Hall of Fame just in time for his 60th birthday, even beating Superman to the punch!

Marvel’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider Man go ahead Superman receive a Hall of Fame induction at Comic-Con Museum on July 20, 2022, at a ceremony that will also include the unveiling of “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing – The Exhibition”.

The Comic-Con Museum’s Character Hall of Fame was dedicated in 2019″recognize and honor our industry’s most important icons and the artists and storytellers who created them.Batman was his first inductee, followed by Wonder Woman in 2021. So DC Comics’ Trinity of Heroes is two out of three when it comes to Hall of Fame inductions, but before Big Blue can join his colleagues from the Justice League, it seems the Wall-Crawling Wonder has cemented itself firmly into the Hall of Fame, and it’s well deserved!

This induction is also a highlight of Spider-Man’s 60th birthday, which Marvel just celebrated on June 5, 2022. He first appeared in amazing fantasy #15 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Since then, it’s become Marvel’s biggest moneymaker, bringing in an average of $1.3 billion a year between movies, TV, video games, merchandise and comics. “No other character embodies the heart and humor of Marvel quite like Peter.“said editor CB Cebulski in Marvel’s announcement of the Hall of Fame induction.”We’re thrilled to pay tribute to Spider-Man’s lasting legacy, and we’re honored to have him join the Comic-Con Museum Hall of Fame..”

Based on the four characters who have received Hall of Fame status so far, a pattern could emerge. Between the induction of Batman in 2019 and Wonder Woman in 2021, they were separated by Pac-Man in 2020, sort of a dark horse choice given that most of his influence has been on video games and no on the comics. Since it’s only a matter of time before Superman completes the set, he may complete the Hall of Fame’s top five in 2023, which will be his 85th birthday. Spider-Man would then have served as another buffer, though arguably a more obvious appeal than the pixelated pillbox.

Whatever the CCM induction strategy, the Character Hall of Fame is a great method to recognize everyone’s favorites and ensure that each character gets the recognition they deserve. The fact that this is paired with an entire exhibit devoted to Spidey proves the immense impact the crawler has had on the comics industry. Whereas Superman will no doubt complement DC Trinity’s presence in the Comic-Con Museum‘s Hall of Fame in due time, it’s nice to see Spider Man stick landing first.
