MotoManipal, the official electric superbike team of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), has won first place in the electric bike design competition organized online by Mechatron Motors.
MotoManipal was declared the winner of the competition and also came out on top in the Best Business Plan category.
Reports such as business plan, cost report, innovation and design reports were submitted by the team on February 20. The business plan and cost report mainly included the bike’s manufacturing costs, marketing plan, and their unique business strategy. The design report detailed the aesthetics and aerodynamics of the bike. For the innovation aspect, the bike design included a supercapacitor pack, automatic headlights, support sensors and a smart helmet. The presentation of the reports and the business plan took place online in March.
The team-designed bike is driven by a 2kW brushless DC motor. Software such as CAD and CAE were used for design, modeling and analysis.
Team leader and third-year mechanical engineering student Aryan Singh said regular and effective communication between team members ensured everyone was on the same page.
The team members worked tirelessly designing the bike and preparing the report on it for two to three months. Much of the planning and communication took place online, and the team overcame the challenges associated with working online, he said.
The team had also won accolades at other national level competitions. MotoManipal was previously the winner of the “Asian E-Bike Challenge” in 2019 and the winner of the “National Online E-Bike Design Challenge” seasons 1 and 2 and won third place in season 3.
MotoManipal will compete in the MotoStudent competition, at Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore in October later this year, and work for the same is underway.
Additionally, the team has signed up for the international MotoStudent competition, in Aragon, Spain, in 2023 to show the world the brilliance of Indian engineering.
