Jim Lake, president of SeaWorld San Diego and Sesame Place San Diego, to lead host of changes for 2022

SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment welcomes a host of major changes to San Diego. This includes the introduction of a new ride at SeaWorld San Diego (emperor), new event in the park (Mardi Gras) and a brand new theme park (Sesame Square San Diego). Jim Lake, who was named park president for SeaWorld San Diego and Sesame Place San Diego in November 2021, helped usher in this change and is responsible for strategic planning and all park operations.

Lake brings over 30 years of theme park experience with significant expertise in food and beverage, retail, operations, development and project management. He joins SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment from Disney Parks, Experiences and Products where he was General Manager of Disneyland Park East. Lake joined Disney in 1989 through the Walt Disney World College program, beginning his career as a parking lot host at Epcot. He spent 10 years in roles of increasing responsibility at several Disney Parks before joining Palace Entertainment as Chief Operating Officer in 2003. He joined Disneyland in 2006 and took on increasingly senior roles, culminating in his position current CEO.

Lake holds a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Oregon State University and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Biola University. He is also Adjunct Professor, Hospitality and Tourism Management, at California State University, Fullerton. Jim will be moving from Orange County to San Diego.
