Wheeling, WV — The Wheeling University swim team opened the 2022 portion of their schedule on Saturday with a double meet against West Virginia Wesleyan College. female swimmer Jade Miller had a big day, earning three first-place finishes at the event, earning her the Mountain East Conference Female Swimmer of the Week award for the second time this season.
Miller has been Wheeling’s top female contender this season, earning multiple first-place finishes throughout the season. Her three wins on Saturday are tied for the most wins she has won at a single event this season, and the three wins are the highest since winning three races at the Salem double meet on November 13, 2021. Miller has been a constant presence for the women’s swim team throughout the season, but had one of her best performances of the season against the Bobcats.
Miller would end up competing in four different races during the day, starting with the women’s 200-yard medley relay to kick things off. She teamed up with Meredith Mandel, macie williams, and strange elizabeth finish second with a time of 2:06.80. Her first individual event came five events later when she swam the 100-yard backstroke. It was her best performance of the day, winning the race by a good two seconds as she posted a time of 1:02.25
As the day continued, Miller returned to the water in event #19, the 200-yard breaststroke, where she faced three other competitors. She would win her second gold medal of the day, finishing the event in 2:35.23 as Wheeling took the top two spots. In her last event of the day, Miller was back in the water for the 200 yard individual medley and won her third gold of the day clocking 2:19.00. She beat West Virginia Wesleyan’s Amanda Schlor by ten seconds to take the win.
Miller is the 15th Wheeling University Cardinal to receive weekly Mountain East Conference honors this season, and the fourth member of the Wheeling University swim team. Male swimmer Nathan Yost also picked up Swimmer of the Week honors this week, giving Wheeling Swimming a sweep of the weekly awards. For Miller, it is the second time this season that she has won the award, with her other victory coming on Nov. 16, 2021.
The Wheeling University swim team returns to the pool Saturday, Jan. 29, when they travel to Fairmont State for a tri-game with the Falcons and Alderson Broaddus at 1 p.m.
