Deputy Hilliard’s funeral takes place today | New

SALISBURY, Md.- Wicomico County Deputy Glenn Hilliard will be laid to rest today.

Maryland State Police are asking drivers to remember that Baglin Park Drive between Old Ocean City Road (Route 346) and Ocean Gateway (US Route 50 Business) will be closed beginning at 4:00 a.m.

Maryland State Police said Deputy First Class Hilliard will be escorted from the Lewis N. Watson Funeral Home to Emmanuel Wesleyan Church, where the service is being held, beginning at 8:15 a.m.

Soldiers say the motorcade will take the following route and drivers should expect temporary closures:

● West Road to W. Naylor Mill Road

● Right on W. Naylor Mill Road crossing MD Route 50 Bypass

● The motorcade will pass the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department

● Cross MD Route 13 onto E. Naylor Mill Road

● Right on Zion Road

● Left on Baglin Park Drive

Soldiers estimate DFC Hilliard will be at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church at 8:45 a.m. and a public screening will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. A ceremony – which will be broadcast live and broadcast on WRDE – is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.

On Monday, WRDE learned that at least three of Hilliard’s friends, Lt. Gov. Boyd K. Rutherford and Wicomico Sheriff Mike Lewis would be speakers at the service.

After the ceremony, US Route 50 westbound between Route 589 and Friendship Road in Berlin will be closed from at least 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., pending the duration of the processional motorcade. Follow @MDSP on Twitter and visit for traffic updates.

Soldiers say signs will be posted along Ocean Gateway and Old Ocean City Road to alert funeral drivers. After the ceremony, there will be an escort by Deputy First Class Glenn Hilliard to Sunset Cemetery in Berlin. The procession will follow the following route where there will be temporary road closures:

● Left on Baglin Park Drive

● Left on MD Route 50 Business

● Travel EB on MD Route 50 through Wicomico County in Worcester County

● Left on Seahawk Road (Berlin)

● Right on Grays Corner Road

● Right in the Sunset Cemetery

The burial will be open to the public. Parking will be limited at the cemetery.
