Cubs place INF Wisdom on 10-day IL, INF Rivas recalls

MILWAUKEE – The Chicago Cubs today placed infielder Patrick Wisdom on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 26) with a sprained left ring finger and recalled infielder Alfonso Rivas from Triple-A Iowa.

Rivas, 25, played 71 games over four stints for Chicago in 2022, hitting .232 (41 for 177) with four doubles, one triple, three home runs and 24 RBIs. Twice this season, on April 23 and June 22, he had a career-high five RBIs. In 26 games with Iowa this season, Rivas is averaging .298 (28 in 94) with six doubles, a triple, a home run and 10 RBIs.

Rivas made his major league debut last season with Chicago, hitting .318 (14 for 44) with one home run, three RBIs and .388 on-base percentage in 18 games. In 58 games for Iowa in 2021, Rivas batted .284 (56 for 197) with 13 doubles, four home runs and 32 RBIs.

Acquired from Oakland for infielder Tony Kemp on Jan. 13, 2020, Rivas is 0.289 ERA (280 for 968) with 61 doubles, six triples, 15 homers, 130 RBI and .391 on-base percentage in 267. careers. minor league games. He was selected by Oakland in the fourth round of the 2018 University of Arizona Draft.

Wisdom, who celebrates his 31st birthday today, is hitting .217 (89 for 411) with 25 doubles, 22 homers, 58 RBIs and 51 walks in 117 games for the Cubs this season.
