Chanel unveils the renovated 18 place Vendôme in Paris

“May my legend flourish and prosper. I wish him a long and happy life! says Gabrielle Chanel; this is what we can read in ‘L’Allure de Chanel’ written by Paul Morand in 1996. It is certain, Gabrielle Chanel will remain forever in the legend.

Wednesday, May 18, 2022 was a big day for the house of CHANEL. After a year of renovation, CHANEL has opened its iconic address 18 Place Vendomeexactly 90 years after the creation of “Bijoux de Diamants”, the only Haute Joaillerie Creation collection created by Gabrielle Chanel in 1932.

The spectacular three-story building was reimagined by Pierre Marin for a second time. “It’s definitely a unique and extraordinary boutique. There is no other shop in the world like this”said Frédéric Grangié, President of Chanel Watches and Jewelry the day of the opening. “It’s like a Venetian palace, it’s simply sublime, there is no equivalent in the world”.

The flagship at 18 place Vendôme is the heart of the Chanel Watches and Jewelry collection. Under the same roof are the studios for the creation of fine jewelry and watchmaking of the house directed by Patrice Leguéreau and Arnaud Chastaingt, but also – this is new – the Chanel Heritage collection. “We wanted to show where we are today in watchmaking and jewelry, and of course show all our creations” adds Frédéric Grangié.

Star architect Peter Marino doubled the size of the original boutique and worked his incredible magic across all three floors. The Grand Marin knows the Chanel house perfectly, brilliantly expressing the Chanel creation evolving over the years. The result is an exceptional concentration of arts and crafts with uncommon craftsmanship and craftsmanship that celebrates the intimacy of Gabrielle Chanel.

The embodiment of Parisian elegance, Place Vendôme is Gabrielle Chanel’s most familiar landscape. The views of the octagonal square during her long life at the Ritz inspired her and inspired many of her designs like the watch faces.

To enter 18 Place Vendôme through its giant blue door is to live the dreams of Mademoiselle Chanel. Inside, the decor plays as if by magic on transparency, space and brilliance. The shop offers different perspectives opening onto different lounges and levels. The golden, beige and brown hues of the lacquered panels, the carpets with tweed patterns and the carpets made exclusively for the boutique, the beautiful mirrors and the daylight enhance the warm and intimate atmosphere.

The decor is contemporary, Peter Marino has freely mixed eras and styles: gilded bronze accents on the table and the window frames, on the ornaments of the Louis XIV and Louis XV desks and the spectacular chandeliers created by Chanel Goossens goldsmith arts.

In the middle of the ground floor, an ode to Place Vendôme, symbol of the world of jewelry, a spectacular work of art almost 3 meters high by Belgian Johan Creten: La Borne. “We had dreamed of including La Borne in our new store and we realized it with Peter” said the president of Chanel Watches and Jewelry. Around thirteen works of art are merged into the design and architecture of the store. To access the upper floors, a sleek staircase with gilded bronze and crystal panels made by Goossens with a stainless steel sculpture “Coco Chandelier” by Joel Morrison at the bottom with a double C in a ring in the nose!

“We wanted to offer new experiences to our customers. We have a space with state-of-the-art technology to communicate with our best customers all over the world. “We are proud not to offer e-commerce, it is very important for us because above all we want to preserve the human experience. But the digital experiences we create have to be absolutely spectacular” reports Frédéric Grangié.

The first floor or “noble floor” offers new spaces. One of them is very special because it houses the 55.55 diamond necklace -not for sale- which is part of Chanel Patrimoine. A design creation that commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Chanel N°5 perfume last year. Then, behind a door, Le Grand Salon. This long room with bay windows and beige-painted silk curtains offers a magical view of Place Vendôme and is dedicated to private meetings. Inside, on one wall, a magnificent oil painting “Composition” by Nicolas de Staël from 1950, a sculptural bronze armchair with golden reflections by Voukenas Petrides and a coffee table by Reda Amalou punctuate the Grand Salon without any artifice.

18 Place Vendôme is a journey through the creations of the Chanel universe. The codes, colors, textures, materials and nuances of the French house are found in ultimate luxury. Beige, white, black, gold harmonize in spaces, lines and materials. Never ostentatious, always elegant, chic and discreet, the Chanel house offers here a veritable temple of hard work, craftsmanship, exceptional craftsmanship creations combined with unique pieces of art and watch and jewelry collections. of exception. There is no doubt that 18 place Vendôme is already an icon in the world of watchmaking and jewelry.

Chanel has 55 Watches & Jewelry stores worldwide, four in the United States located in Beverly Hills, South Coast Plaza, Madison Avenue and inside the Wynn in Las Vegas. “The American market is a historic market for Chanel and is part of our history” underlined Frédéric Grangié. 2023 will be another great year. “We are going to open the most extraordinary Chanel boutique on Rodeo Drive and a New York flagship on 5th Avenue”. We can’t wait to see what Chanel with Peter Marino reveals.
