Jehan Daruvala capped off a tough seventh round of the 2022 Formula 2 championship by finishing seventh in the long distance race at Silverstone. His teammate and Fellow Red Bull junior driver Dennis Hauger was eliminated from the race early on after an incident with Roy Nissany.
Starting 10th on the grid, the Indian driver regained a place at the start, but lost contact with the cars in front a little thanks to a start with a harder compound. In this unconventional strategy, while the initial phase was going to be tough, the Prema rider tires would be the perfect compound to be on as the race progressed. Also, once he made his mandatory pit stop, he would be on a cooler, softer set of tires to work his way through the pack.
Once the soft tire riders made their mandatory pit stops, the Indian driver was second and had started to catch up to Juri Vips for the race lead. But the former finally made his pit stop, followed by Daruvala a lap later. With six laps to go and fitted with softer tyres, Daruvala worked his way through the field, managing to move back to seventh at the checkered flag.
A seventh-place finish should serve as some form of consolation on a damage-limiting weekend for Daruvala. The Indian driver now sits in fourth place in the driver standings at the halfway mark of the season.
Formula 2 will resume racing in less than seven days at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The event is scheduled for July 8-10.
